TANSTAAFL stands for There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. Borrowed from the novel The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress by science fiction author Robert Heinlein.
In the book, two of the characters go into a bar; There is a sign that says Free Drinks. The main character says that if the drinks weren't free, the food would be half price! TANSTAAFL!
I recomend this book and any of his other works as some of the best scifi ever written.
